What is the first thing you do when you wake up? Check your phone? Is your phone taking up most of your time, it may be time for a digital detox.
So, you may be asking what a digital detox is. It is when you limit the time you go on your digital devices. This may not be everyone’s dream, but from experience I found it really useful.
I spend most of my day, pretty sure like most people, on my phone. If you ask me would I rather write essay after essay or scroll through social media, I’m sure I wouldn’t be the only one to say scroll through social media. I never thought I was spending too much time on my phone, to me it was normal. But when I had a pile of work to complete and very little time to complete all of them, I thought of doing a digital detox. This meant for me to not be on my phone as much as I couldn’t get rid of my phone for a few days because I don’t know about you but my phone is my life. So, I put my phone on silent and opened my laptop to start doing work. I told myself I could check my phone after half an hour of work. It wasn’t as hard I thought it’d be. After the first few hours of doing it, it became really easy. I finally got a load of the work which needed completing done and I feel happier about it.

Here are some facts.
- 1 out of 10 people aged 11-18 admit to checking their phone for notifications at least 10 times a night.
- A quarter of these teenagers who were asked said they felt tired during the day because of how much time they spend on their phone at night.
- Also, 94% of them are on social media.
Now you may be thinking I don’t go on my phone during the night so surely it doesn’t include me. Well you don’t need to be checking it during the night for it to have negative effects on you.
Scientists have researched phones and what it has done to everyone’s attention span. They found out that our attention span has fallen from 12 seconds in the year 2000 to 8 seconds in 2017. Technology isn’t all bad as it has helped us become better at multitasking.
