Impact reporting, sometimes it is the little things

'Thank you for picking me for this' As we are coming to the end of one of our Neuro Champion Young Leaders programmes, we are collecting lots of data to evidence our outcomes. Some of these outcomes include an increased knowledge of the brain, neuroscience and mental health and others include the prevention of, and reduction in, mental ill health. We collect data throughout the whole programme and constantly evaluate what we do so we can make changes and improve. However, it is comments like this that let us know that we have done a good job! Well done to everyone involved, especially the facilitators. But most of all a massive THANK YOU to all are new Neuro Champions, you...

Boxing for mental health

Yes, you read that right.... boxing is good for your mental health. We are referring to the non-contact kind of course! Let's clarify this; last week a few of us at Neuro Champions attended an England boxing non-contact coaching course (called BOX) as we believe that mental health and physical health are both important. They are also dependent upon each other; this means that it is often difficult to have good mental health if you are physically unwell and vice versa. Choose a task that needs to be complete. Set a timer on your phone for 25 minutes and work on your task WITHOUT GETTING DISTRACTED! Then you have 5 minutes off to move about, check your Insta if needed but limit this to 5 minutes only before you set your timer again for another 25...

Neuro Champion Movie Makers

This week we had the opportunity to take 14 students from our Neuro Champions Young Leaders programme, to the Apple store for an interactive session on movie making. The instructor was great and within minutes, the year 5 and 6 students and their teachers were busy making clips and having great fun.  In the next session, we started our story boards. These focused on an emotion (i.e. Joy, Fear, Anger) with the aim to design a story that would express this emotion. This was a definite hit. Our busy film makers beavered away with some fantastic results. This week they get to make their movies and we cannot wait to see the results. Two hours of interactive fun... film makers...
